Theft Aware = Spyware?

Ja. Du kannst Theft Aware getrost installlieren, es ist keinesfalls Spyware! Ich wiederhole: Keinesfalls. Dass ein Virenscanner auf einen Diebstahlsschutz anspringt, ist verständlich.

Lookout gibt zu bedenken, das mit Theft Aware eine Remote-Steuerung des Telefons möglich ist. Aber genau das ist ja der Sinn von Theft Aware.

Seit einiger Zeit weist Lookout unsere Software Theft Aware als Spyware aus. Wir haben mit den Lookout Entwicklern Kontakt aufgenommen und konnten das Bild gerade rücken: Theft Aware wird in Zukunft nicht länger als Spyware geführt wie der Produktmanager in seiner Mail schreibt:

“When we received your email we were already in the process of reviewing our classification policies for spyware, and based on your concerns we are accelerating that process. In our next app update we will remove the Spyware classification from your app. Since your app does have capabilities that could be used (in violation of your policies and the law) to track someone, we will continue to list it in our Privacy Advisor section. This listing is simply a matter-of-fact notification of each app's capabilities, and we are careful to avoid scaring users or making a legitimate app look like spyware. Our own app also has a notification in this section.“
